Create a beach scene in your foyer, a corner of the party area, in the backyard, or along the front walk. For indoors tape sheets of sandpaper together to create a patch of beach or glue real sand to a large piece of cardboard.
Position a beach chair then add beach towels, sun tan lotion, sun glasses, flip flops, beach ball, cooler and other items you take to the beach. Add a surfboard, if you have one laying around, and/or a bikini. Use your house plants as a backdrop indoors or a beach umbrella outdoors.
photo picture frames together with a beach scene or beach item pictures in each frame. Find them online and print them to fit your frames. Also use photos from your own beach trips and include as many of your invited guests as you can find.
Other filler ideas to use in clear vases or bowls to highlight color, include metallic shred, shells, glass beads, ornaments, candy, and colored water.
Submersible LED Ice Cubes
Add submersible LED ice cubes to cocktails or water glasses for a fun and original splash of color. Use a variety of colors for a surfer beach party: green, purple, pink, orange, blue, white, yellow, and red. This unique drink accessory is safe, non-toxic, and FDA-approved.
Naturally, these reusable ice cubes are waterproof and are shipped with the batteries included. Each cube has four settings: steady-on, flash, fast-blink, and off.
Floral Vase Lights
In addition to LED ice cubes, you may want to use submersible LED floralytes in flower vases to create areas of glowing colors throughout your home. Floralytes are available in purple, amber, blue, white, red, teal, green, and hot pink. These floral vase lights typically only have an on and an off setting. Bar Backdrop
If the kitchen or an unsightly area is behind your bar, hang a double window bamboo shade from the ceiling as a backdrop. Not only will you add style to your bar service and party atmosphere, but you will keep your preparation of surprises hidden. You can easily roll the shade up and down as needed and reuse for all of your parties.
Or add atmosphere by covering the wall behind the bar, along a corridor, or in the party area with bulletin board colored or scene paper. For example, we have used a sky with clouds behind our beach bar.
Place beads in a bowl or giant martini glass on the bar, and let guests help themselves. Liven up the party, by passing a tray of party beads in between hors d'oeuvres.
For a dinner party, loop a strand of beads several times around a rolled up dinner napkin to make a colorful napkin ring that your guests can wear.
Set the tone by decorating yourself in the spirit of your event. Not only does this reinforce your theme, but it also lightens the mood and makes your guests more comfortable.
Furthermore, when you make this extra effort, your guests will want to get in on the fun by dressing up for your future parties. This is how your great parties will become more spectacular over time.
Make it as dressy or casual as you want your party to be. For your surfer or beach theme, wear board shorts, an open shirt (if you have the body for it), flip flops, bikini and cover-up with a floppy or straw hat. Add some zinc oxide on your nose for extra fun.
Or step it up with a sun dress or Tommy Bahama island-style clothes. And don't forget to get a spray tan the morning-of or day-before the party.
Dress up the guest bathroom further with floating candles in your bathtub. Use fish, shells, or starfish with the beach theme. Sprinkle rose petals on the water for an added touch of soft elegance.
For an outdoor party, use floating candles in the pool or fish pond. If those are not available, you can always float your elegant candles in a plastic wading pool for a laugh.
Candles in Hurricane Vases
Create a mini-beach scene in a hurricane vase. Starting with a hurricane vase, add sand and place a small pillar candle in the center. Add a few small shells inside the vase on the sand, as well as a few outside the vase. Use white, aqua or blue candles.
Alternatively, use beach glass instead of the shells and sand, or place pieces of beach glass on top of the sand around the candle.
Striped Beach Towels & Shells
If you can find them, nothing says "beach" like bold, colorful striped towels. Put them anywhere and it instantly becomes a beach scene. Use them rolled up and stacked or as table runners.
Use shells of all sizes and shapes liberally, grouped together and all alone. Place a few in key obscure places like the medicine cabinet (because you know they're going to look).
Use evite.com to find more distinctive party invitations that will create excitement. Then use Facebook to send a follow-up of the details, otherwise your Beach party invite is more likely to get lost in the Facebook clutter.
For a dinner party, a personal telephone call with a follow-up email of the details is recommended. If you are mailing invitations, add a sprinkle of sea life confetti.
When entertaining, use real glasses for cocktails. Bar glasses are inexpensive and a great investment for future parties, but if you cannot afford to buy them, rent them.
Ideally, serve your beach drinks in stemware, such as a tulip or hurricane glass. Depending upon the size of the party or if these are not available, use a wine goblet or highball glass. You can also start out "rewarding" the early guests with stemware and switch to double old-fashioned glasses when they run out.
For an outdoor party, buy permanent plastic cups that look like glass. If you must go the disposable route, buy clear plastic cups.
Double old fashioned glasses are suitable for most cocktails, especially when entertaining a large number of guests. You may also wish to keep martini and wine glasses on hand for stemware. Highball glasses are optional, but great for drinks with a number of ingredients.
Miscellaneous Decorating Ideas
Fishing Net - Hang a fishing net decoration on the wall and add shells and sea life, photos of your guest of honor, or beach destinations.
Candy - Fill candy dishes with white life savers and/or gummy fish.
Life Ring Centerpiece - In addition to hanging on the door, floating in the swimming pool, and saving lives, use a life ring as a centerpiece with a bowl of nuts, mints, or flowers.
Fruit & Bamboo - Use real fruit like pineapple, bananas, coconuts, and oranges, to name a few, as decorations. Also, bamboo imparts a beachy, island feel and is relatively easy to find.
Tiki Torches - For an outdoor nighttime beach party, use tiki torches around the perimeter of your party area and along walkways to add warm lighting in the spirit of your theme.
