Attain even greater nautical heights with this distinctive 18" Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, lighthouse centerpiece or focal point. Bearing the unmistakable black & white helical Daymark of the Cape Hatteras Light, this detailed resin tower has a "lit" (yellow) windowpane lantern room, 3 notched windows, and sits on the distinguishing octagonal red-brick base.
  • 18.25" tall x 6.5" diameter base
  • 2 lbs, 11 oz weight
  • Painted resin
The actual lighthouse was first lit in 1803 to warn ships away from the treacherous Diamond Shoals, but has since moved farther inland due to receding shorelines. It is the tallest lighthouse in the U.S. and one of the tallest in the world. It's nickname is the "Big Barber Pole" because of its unusual striping, which folklore (inaccurately) attributes to a mix-up by the builder.

Weighing 5,000 tons and 200 feet tall, Cape Hatteras lighthouse is also the tallest masonry structure every moved. Due to erosion, the light was only 15 feet from the ocean's edge and was relocated 1,500 feet from the shoreline in "The Move of the Millennium" in 1999.
