Stage a summer daydream straight out of a 1950s postcard with this retro beach boardwalk centerpiece.
Perfect for a beach-themed brunch, poolside party, summer bridal shower, or any gathering that calls for a splash of sunshine and nostalgia.

An aqua-painted wooden boardwalk, complete with faux pilings, sets the entire scene apart—literally and visually—like a sun-bleached pier rising from a sea of vibrant pattern.
Lounging bathing beauties and a striped ice cream cart channel vintage seaside glamour, adding whimsy, character, and irresistible photo appeal to the centerpiece.
Striped cabana huts and globe lamp posts add playful structure and architectural flair, perfectly balancing the scene’s nostalgic whimsy with bold, eye-catching contrast.

- Artificial mini succulent or palm

Paint & supplies: Sandpaper, hot glue, floral foam, white paint, aqua paint, coral paint, gray paint, primer (optional), paintbrushes.
Step 1: Prep Your Pieces

Before the magic begins, do a little sanding and slicing to prep your materials.
- Cut the board to 28 inches in length.
- Cut the wood dowel into eight 4-inch lengths to create pilings.
- Sand the silver candlesticks and round ornaments (if not already white) for better paint adhesion.
- If needed, lightly sand the terracotta pot to help the paint grip..
Step 2: Paint the Pieces

Bring that retro color palette to life! Channel the minty freshness and sherbet flair of a 1950s beach town.
- Boardwalk base (1x6 board): Paint aqua to match the swimsuits.
- Pilings (wood dowels): Paint gray, then whitewash both board and pilings.
- Whitewash = 1 part white paint + 1 part water. Thin with more water if needed for a weathered effect.
- Lamp post candlesticks:
- Optional: Prime first with white primer.
- Paint coral to match the beach cabana coral striped tops.
- Add aqua accents to echo the retro theme.
- Round ornament tops: Paint white, if needed (they’ll become your globe lights!).
- Mini flower pot:
- Paint the base white.
- When dry, add a coral band around the collar.
Step 3: Assemble the Boardwalk

- Create supports: Glue birch slices together in three pairs to form chunky “risers.”
- Attach the board: Evenly space the supports and glue the aqua-painted board on top.
- Add pilings: Glue the gray/whitewashed dowel pilings along the board’s edges—like posts flanking a pier.
Step 4: Build Lamp Posts & Add Greenery
- Lamp posts: Glue the white-painted ornaments to the tops of the candlesticks. Voilà—vintage boardwalk lamps!
- Mini plant pot: Add your faux succulent or palm and (optionally) top with moss for a fresh, beachy flourish.
Set the Scene

Now that your boardwalk is built, it’s time to stage the story:
- Pair this setup with a color-packed fruit slice or similar fabric overlay on a white tablecloth for maximum visual energy.
- The loud, busy pattern creates a sea of summer chaos, making your boardwalk feel like a calm, curated “island” in the middle of all the fun.
- On top of the lively overlay, layer a wide band of natural fiber or woven mat to represent the sandy beach and add texture.
- Position your lounging figurines on beach towels made from the folded coral fabric.
- Nestle in the striped cabanas, lamp posts, and flower pot.
- Let the ice cream cart steal the spotlight, like it’s ready to roll into a scene from a Technicolor beach film.
- Extend this sandy beach centerpiece, as needed, with scattered white finger starfish on each side.
Guest Experience

- With this setup, less is more at the place settings.
- Let the aqua napkins, clean-lined flatware, and tidy alignment give your guests room to soak in the scene without distraction.
Reverse View

- The reverse view continues the narrative, ensuring no guest is left out of this retro seaside escape.
