Q: Can I take the ship off the stand, or is it all one piece ? (I'd like to use it as a cake topper, so I'd like it to sit in the frosting, which will look like water.)

A: The ship is mounted onto the base by 2 plastic supports that are glued. The easiest way to remove it would be to cut the supports at the bottom of the boat.
