First lit in 1859, the conical, brick tower is 157 feet tall and was built to mark New Jersey's southernmost point at the entrance of Delaware Bay. The 3rd lighthouse built at Cape May point, the tower is painted beige with a red cupola and is constructed with an inner cylindrical tower to support a 199-step iron spiral staircase.
