The official flag of France features 3 equal vertical bands of blue, white and red with the blue band featured on the hoist side.  After the French Revolution, the official color of France, white, was combined with the colors of the Parisian militia that stormed the Bastille in 1789, which were blue and red, to form the official tricolor that represents France today.
The French flag was designed by Jacques-Louis David.
