Prep Bases
- Start with a block of wood as a base for the Empire State Building replica.
- Cut a 4-inch piece from a 2 x 6 board.
- Sand down the sides and corners for a finished look.
- Apply two or more coats of matte black spray paint.
- For our mini Ellis Island, start with a 1" x 2.5" diameter floral foam disc,
- Snip blue hydrangea blooms into small clusters.
- Insert the stems around the sides of the disc to portray the rippling waters of the bay.
Set the Scene
- Start with a black tablecloth as this urban nightscape's foundation.
- A retro yellow taxi revs up the nostalgia as the centerpiece.
- Next, frame the taxicab with vintage-style street lights along each side to add context and perspective.
- To create the street lights, secure a 1.5" round white Christmas ornament to the 9-inch silver candlestick resembling a lamppost.
