A: The baskets of the hot air balloon lanterns are connected with string so they will collapse when sitting on a table. To get the full effect, they should be hung.

Expand the lantern carefully. Insert the wire frame (expander) through the large opening on top of the lantern. Make sure the 'C' shaped wire piece is at the top of the lantern. This is how you will hang it. Place the bottom and top corners of the metal frame in the metal eyelets on the lantern. This should be done very carefully to avoid the corners of the frame breaking the paper.
