Nautical Dinner Decorating

Nautical Centerpieces & Dinner Party Decorating
For a more casual nautical scene, focus on the natural elements of the sea and ocean travels with a emphasis on environmental and rustic features. Create a more refined look with crisp lines and intricate details in the nautical colors of blue, white, and red with gold accents.

Whether you choose rustic, refined or a combination of the two, use a variety of contrasting colors and textures for a more visually stimulating display.
Oh Buoy, Oh Buoy
For maximum visual impact, use a bright white background to make your decorations clearly visible and distinctive. Start with a white tablecloth and white dinner plates and build your centerpiece on a blue canvas runner symbolic of the deep blue sea.
Center your table around a seagull or pelican perched on a piling flanked by a pair of coordinated buoys. Then, 'tie' into the buoy and seagull piling rope with the complementary texture of large monkey's fist rope knots in 3 different colors.
Position one or a grouping of knots on each side of the buoy centerpiece.
Continue the contrasting nautical colors of blue & white with solid blue beverage napkins in the center of each charger, plate, or place setting.

Turn the napkins to represent a compass pointing to the north, south, east & west relative to the plate. Finally, add buoy floaters in gold and white to the napkins centered on each plate.
Choose from a variety of different, yet complementary buoys, and seagull centerpieces. You may also rearrange the centerpiece to include a pair of complementary sea birds with a unique buoy between them.
Ships Ahoy!
Create an interesting and fun nautical centerpiece by including a variety of intricately detailed model boats and ships of different ages and styles. Choose to display a collection of one type of boat, such as sailboats, or an assortment of ships. Types to consider include clipper ships, sailboats, fishing boats, pleasure craft, schooners, tugboats, and shrimpers.

Use a white tablecloth as a background and sprinkle metallic sailboat confetti to mimic sunlight reflecting off the surface. Use blue dinner napkins with bright red taper candles, then add an element of fun with nautical salt & pepper shakers, such as, lighthouses, lanterns, boats, crabs, lobsters, shells, or boats.
In keeping with the nautical colors of blue, white, and red with yellow-gold accents, use navy blue napkins at each place setting. Place a nautical themed beverage napkin in the center of each plate, then create a dramatic splash of color by placing a bright red aperitif on the cocktail napkin. Finish the scene with a bright yellow lemon slice on each water glass.

Decorate
the yacht club bar area for the pre-dinner cocktails with this popular 19.5" wooden pond sailboat or a navigational or warning buoy for continuity with the dinner table centerpiece.
Also, consider one of a number of lighthouses, such as St. Augustine, Florida; Assateague, Virginia; Jupiter Inlet, Florida; Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; Portland Head, Maine; Tybee Island, Georgia; Cape Romian, South Carolina; or Barnegat, New Jersey.
Accent the scene with a monkey fist rope knot and perched pelican, then serve drinks on dockside, lighthouse, and buoys beverage napkins or other popular nautical cocktail napkin designs.
Hang a Welcome Aboard life preserver behind the bar or on the front door to welcome your guests. And, for more nautical dinner party decorating for the bar, bathroom, lighting and entrance see Nautical Theme Decorations.
