Brighten the scene this holiday season with a miniature Cape Hatteras lighthouse coastal Christmas tree ornament. Hand-painted with the distinctive black & white helix and spiral-striped daymark, this mini resin replica towers over 2 support buildings on a painted base of green grass and CAPE HATTERAS LIGHTHOUSE, NC in black letters on a white background along the side.
  • 3" tall x 2.25" wide x 1.5" deep
  • 1.75 oz weight
  • Painted resin
  • Braided metallic gold loop for hanging
The actual lighthouse was first lit in 1803 to warn ships away from the treacherous Diamond Shoals, but has since moved farther inland due to receding shorelines. It is the tallest lighthouse in the U.S. and one of the tallest in the world. It's nickname is the "Big Barber Pole" because of its unusual striping, which folklore (inaccurately) attributes to a mix-up by the builder.

Weighing 5,000 tons and 200 feet tall, Cape Hatteras lighthouse is also the tallest masonry structure every moved. Due to erosion, the light was only 15 feet from the ocean's edge and was relocated 1,500 feet from the shoreline in "The Move of the Millennium" in 1999.
