The official flag of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico features 5 horizontal stripes of alternating red & white with a blue isosceles triangle on the hoist side with a white 5-point star in the center of the triangle. The Puerto Rican flag is an adaptation of the Cuban flag with the colors inverted, first introduced in 1892 as a symbol of the independence movement from Spain.

Outlawed on the island from 1898 to 1952 after annexation by the United States, the flag was officially (and controversially) adopted in 1952, changing the original sky blue triangle to dark blue, to match the US flag.
